Abstract
Skull base trauma often requires surgical treatment and it is important to consider the timing of surgery. Many surgical factors are involved, but I wish to restrict this lecture to a review of anaesthetic considerations in patients with recent acute brain injury. In essence, does anaesthesia exacerbate brain injury in the first few days after trauma? Table 1 lists headings under which this question will be considered.
