Intestinal Transport and Osmoregulation in Fishes

Intestinal Transport

Part of the book series: Proceedings in Life Sciences ((LIFE SCIENCES))

Abstract

The general pattern of osmoregulation in fishes was outlined long ago by H. Smith (1930) and has since been confirmed by many investigators. The most significant additional contribution has been the use of radioisotopes which allow the measurement of ionic fluxes and transport across epithelia and has been developed mainly by J. Maetz and his collaborators.
