Abstract
Glucagon is capable of influencing many pathways of lipid metabolism (see Chap. 17, 19, 20, 25, 46) and although some uncertainty remains about the importance of glucagon in the regulation of lipid metabolism under physiologic circumstances in humans (Schade et al. 1979; Müller et al. 1977; Schade and Eaton 1976; Gerich et al. 1976; Pozefsky et al. 1976; Andrews et al. 1975; Liljenquist et al. 1974; Sherwin et al. 1976), glucagon’s potential influence has been sufficiently conspicuous to justify several investigations of its possible role in human and experimental obesity.
