Zn-Pb-F Mineralization in Middle Permian of Tregiovo (Province of Bozen/Trient, Italy)

Summary

The Permian Tregiovo formation, which was deposited in an intramontane basin, stratigraphically transgresses the older Permian Bozener quartz porphyry. The Tregiovo strata are fluviatile and lacustrine sediments and are widely mineralized (Zn, Pb, F). According to Pb-isotope studies the lead has probably been derived from two sources. S-isotope investigations suggest that the sulfides were formed by non-biogenic processes. The occurrence of the sulfides as a fine-grained pore filling in the clastic rocks suggests that the zinc, lead and fluorite were precipitated from connate water. Potential ore resources are estimated at 40 Mio t.

Zusammenfassung

Die permischen Schichten von Tregiovo, die in einem intramontanen Becken über dem Quarzporphyr abgelagert wurden, sind fluviatile, lakustrine Sedimente. Vererzt sind fast auschließlich die lakustrinen Gesteine (Zn, Pb, F). Aufgrund von Pb-Isotopen-Untersuchungen läßt sich das Blei von zwei Quellen ableiten. Die S-Isotopen-Untersuchungen ergaben, daß sich die Sulfide unter nicht biogenen Prozessen gebildet haben. Die auf 40 Mio t geschätzten Erze wurden nicht synsedimentär angelegt, sondern wurden im Porenwasser ausgefällt.
