Abstract
Prostatic pathology, especially benign prostatic hyperplasia and adenocarcinoma, represents the most common cause of urologie problems in the aging male. Benign or malignant enlargement of the prostate can cause obstruction of the bladder outlet which typically gives the picture of prostatism. This is characterized by decreased force of the urinary stream, hesitancy, postvoid dribbling, sensation of not emptying the bladder, and nocturia. Frequency, urgency and urge incontinence may be associated and sometimes hematuria can occur.
