Zusammenfassung
Die traumatischen Folgen der Rückenmarkkompression waren einer chirurgischen Behandlung bisher nicht zugänglich, da weder ihre Natur noch Mittel für ihre Korrektur bekannt waren. 1951 beschrieb der Neurochirurg Alexander Taylor, Belfast, einen querverlaufenden Abriß im komprimierten Rückenmark eines Patienten, der den Unfall nur kurz überlebte und spekulierte über die mögliche Ursache dieser Läsion (Abb. 1) [12]. Erst viele Jahre später konnten wir in Stockholm im technologischen Modell und an der frischen Leiche zeigen, daß es sich bei Taylors transversaler Fissur im Rückenmarkgewebe um ein physikalisches Phänomen handelt, das bei Kompression von Körpern verschiedener Härtegrade konstant auftritt.
