Abstract
The shape of an atherosclerotic lumen frequently deviates from circular symmetry (Vlodaver and Edwards 1971). As a result, an attempt is usually made to obtain multiple cineangiographic projections of a coronary artery segment during cardiac catheterization in order to view an atherosclerotic plaque in profile, since lumen encroachment by an enface plaque cannot be quantitated visually. However, more than one radiographic view perpendicular to the vessel’s long axis is often not possible for many important epicardial coronary artery segments.
