Interaction Between Propafenone and Other Drugs

  • Conference paper
Cardiac Arrhythmias

Abstract

No studies have yet been done on the percentage of patients who are treated concurrently with two, three, or more drugs for a single disease or for several coexisting diseases. Thus, the danger of drug interaction — a potentiation or diminution of effect — exists for a large patient population whose number is beyond estimation. Obviously, the innumerable possibilities of drug combination make a systemic investigation of interaction impossible. It is hardly surprising, then, that of the 12 large pharmaceutical firms that were contacted and questioned during the preparation of this paper, none was in the practice of systematically testing newly-developed drugs for possible interactions. As a result, drug interactions are for the most part disclosed through clinical observation.
