Polarization of Resonant Media

Abstract

We begin this chapter by examining specific features of the nonlinear polarization that manifests itself in the presence of resonant parametric interactions in a medium with freely oriented molecules. For such medium it turns out to be necessary to introduce the parameter of local coherence that defines the efficiency of parametric interaction at a point. The transitions corresponding to the maximal value of this parameter are described.
