Zusammenfassung

Die Anfänge der elektrischen Behandlung bei Herzstillstand und Bradykardie liegen über 200 Jahre zurück. In den Schriften der Royal Human Society aus dem Gründungsjahr 1774 findet sich eine Abhandlung über die Wiederbelebung eines dreijährigen Kindes durch Applikation transthorakaler Stromstöße (Graf 1974). In den elektromedizinischen Zeitabschnitten des Galvanismus und der Faradaysation ist wiederholt über die Anwendung elektrischer Stromimpulse durch den Brustkorb — auch in Verbindung mit „Aufblasen der Lunge“— berichtet worden. Aldini publiziert 1804 experimentelle Untersuchungen, die er in Tur (Italien) durchgeführt hat und beschreibt die Elektrostimulation des Herzens Enthaupteter mittels der Volta-Säule.
