Zusammenfassung
Bisher hatten wir die Vererbung von Merkmalen untersucht, die unter der Kontrolle des Kerngenoms ausgeprägt werden. In allen Fällen konnte der Erbgang durch die Segregation und Aufteilung von Chromosomen vorausgesagt werden. Es gibt jedoch andere Merkmale, deren Vererbung diesen Regeln nicht gehorchen. Im Kapitel über Bakteriengenetik und rekombinierte DNA haben wir Episomen und Plasmide besprochen: sie sind Beispiele extrachromosomaler Elemente bei Prokaryonten. Bei Eukaryonten kennt man viele Fälle extrakaryotischer Vererbung. Viele der Erbmerkmale sind von Genomen der Zellorganellen, wie Mitochondrien und Chloroplasten codiert. In diesem Kapitel werden wir uns auf einige Beispiele extrakaryotischer Vererbung bei Eukaryonten beschränken. Wir wollen dabei deutlich die Unterschiede eines extrakaryotischen Erbgangs und eines karyotischen Erbgangs herausstellen. Es ist daher nur möglich, einen Bruchteil der bekannten extrakaryotischen Genome zu besprechen.
