Zusammenfassung
Nur ein kleiner Teil der Verbrennungen wird durch Starkstrom verursacht. Nach amerikanischen Statistiken von HUNT sind es 0,04%. In der Bundesrepublik Deutschland ereignen sich jährlich etwa 4.000 – 4.500 schwere Unfälle durch elektrischen Strom. In etwa 80% der Fälle sind Männer betroffen, nur 20% waren Frauen. Etwa jeder zehnte Verletzte stirbt an der Starkstromverletzung. Nach POLLAK waren zwischen 1968 und 1977 in Österreich 38,6% aller durch Elektrizität verursachten Todesfälle durch Starkstrom bedingt. Drei von vier Unfallopfern starben noch am Unfallort. In den USA lag dieses Verhältnis der starkstrombedingten Todesfälle zu denen, die durch Schwachstrom zu Tode kamen, nach WRIGHT bei 220 Todesfällen bei 1 : 1. Bei den Schwachstromtodesopfern fanden sich nur in 40% der Fälle Verbrennungen.
