The Role of β-Blockers in Psychiatry and Neurology with Special Reference to Older Patients

Beta-Blockers in the Elderly

Abstract

β-Adrenergic blocking drugs are increasingly being used in the field of psychiatry and neurology. This is best represented by the fact, that a symposium was devoted to them at the last world congress of psychiatry (Kielholz 1978). During the past years some of the indications tested were based on clinical results, while others emerged from rather experimental investigations. They can be divided into four major clinical areas, and are discussed in the order of their practical importance.
