Abstract

A number of silicon-phosphorous compounds have proved to be useful reagents in organic synthesis. Among these are at least four major types: trimethylsilyl phosphines, Ph2PSi(CH3)3; trimethylsilyl phosphites, (CH3)3SiOP(OEt)2; trimethylsilyl phosphates, [(CH3)3SiO]3P=O, and trimethylsilyl hypophosphites, [(CH3)3SiO]2P-H. In general all four react with a single functional group in similar ways and so their chemistry will be examined together.
