Abstract
Directly acting vasodilator drugs relax vascular smooth muscle by interference with the cellular process of excitation-contraction coupling. Although pharmacological antagonists, mostly of the competitive type, such as α-adrenoceptor blockers, conform with this definition, they are usually not included in the group of vasodilators.
