Abstract
Layer I of the isocortex is conspicuous because of the very small number of neuronal perikarya. With the membrana limitans gliae superficialis, layer I touches the subarachnoid space. The lower border is defined by the abrupt appearance of numerous, densely packed, small cell bodies of the second layer (Figs. 1, 2, 10).
