Abstract

Nitrogen is an essential component of proteins, therefore an adequate supply is needed for the normal development of crops. Nitrogen is generally the first element to become deficient in semiarid and arid regions. This is due to the fact that soil organic matter is the major reserve of soil nitrogen and most soils in low rainfall areas are low in organic matter.
