Abstract
The vertebral column is more and more seen to be afflicted by trauma through traffic accidents and by injuries which occur in professional life. Despite the introduction of seat belts in cars designed to protect the body to a certain extent and application of various precautionary measures at places of work subluxations, tears of ligaments and fractures following accidental crashes often finally determine the fate of disability of the patient. Additional complications are severe posttraumatic haemorrhages in the region of the spinal cord.
