Abstract

Structure building and evolution phenomena are of increasing interest in different areas. In physics we meet structure transitions in thermodynamics, hydrodynamics, reaction kinetics, quantum optics; we also meet such phenomena in ecology and other fields showing similar features always connected with nonlinearities, instationarities far from equilibrium-phenomena which are compared and generalized by so called synergetics and nonequilibrium thermodynamics (Haken, Prigogine, Glansdorff, Nicolis, Eigen and others). In 1979 in one of the Synergetic Symposia the relevance of pattern recognition processes as models for structural change was shown.
