Retrograde Ejaculation

  • Chapter
Treatment of Male Infertility

Abstract

Retrograde ejaculation is the propulsion of seminal fluid from the posterior urethra into the bladder. Its incidence is unknown, but it is undoubtedly more common than is thought (Sandler 1979). It may be associated with diseases like diabetes mellitus and with the use of certain drugs (Ellenberg and Weber 1966; Hughes 1964). Most cases, however, are iatrogenic or secondary to diseases that occur after the reproductive years (Potts 1975); therefore, retrograde ejaculation is most often an interesting clinical observation, but a relatively uncommon cause of male infertility.
