Abstract

It has been pointed out that tricuspid stenosis (TS) occurs much more frequently than was recognized. However, its high incidence in pathological reports, 30% in seven series collected by Kitchen and Turner (11) and 16% in surgical reports by Baily and Bolten (1), is not surprising, in contrast with a modest incidence in most clinical reports. This discrepancy can be explained by the lack of an inital clinical index of suspicion, the difficulty of diagnosis in the presence of atrial fibrillation (13), and the inadequate appreciation of the whole spectrum of organic tricuspid valve disease (6).
