Abstract
A committee was organized by the Association of University Anesthetists in the United States to study the past accomplishments and future needs in regional anesthesia. The scientific background of the Committee was varied in order to get a representative cross section of opinion regarding directions both in basic and clinical research. The Committee included an organic chemist, pharmacologists, pharmacokineticists, and clinical anesthesiologists.
