Zusammenfassung

Da eine Xenotransplantation heute und wohl in absehbarer Zeit klinisch keine relevante Bedeutung hat, hängt die Transplantationschirurgie ausschließlich von der Verfügbarkeit menschlicher Organe ab. Weit überwiegend handelt es sich hierbei um die Organe Verstorbener. Dies trifft speziell auch für die Nierentransplantation zu. Als paariges Organ kann jedoch auch eine Organspende von einem Lebenden gerechtfertigt sein, wenn damit für den Empfänger wesentliche Vorteile verbunden bzw. zu erwarten sind und wenn die Maßnahme dem Wunsch und der Situation des Spenders entspricht (s.u.).
