Upper Krol Stromatolites from Nainital Hills, Kumaun Himalaya, India

Phanerozoic Stromatolites

Abstract

The occurrence of stromatolites in the Upper Krol Formation of Nainital was first noted by Fuchs and Sinha (1974). Singh and Rai (1977) reported the occurrence of what they called Conophyton garganicus, Baicalia baicalica, and Colonella sp. in the Krol of Nainital. Raha (1972) recognized three forms which superficially resemble various forms of Collenia and one form which compares well with Mississipian Malacostroma coicentricum from the Upper Krol Formation of the Mussoorie area (roughly 180 km northwest of Nainital).
