Abstract

Contributions by outstanding specialists sometimes turn out to be reference works of much higher importance than may be supposed from their topics. This applies to the late HEINRICHS SKUJA, the late JACOBUS HEIMANS, and, LIKEWISE, to GUNNAR NYGAARD whose last publication on algae from Greenland is a treasury for specialists of algae in ultraoligotrophic waters. There are some few specialists in the following generation who appear able and willing to take upon the difficult though necessary role of authorities in the future. It is remarkable that many persons believed to be capable of this job live in smaller countries (Czechoslovakia, Denmark, the Netherlands).
