Abstract
Before 1970 the interest in the field of the polymorphism of nonamphiphilic liquid crystals was turned to the spread of the nematic phases and the smectic phase types A, B and C. Later on new substances with higher polymorphism and new phases have been found and also intensive investigations on structures took place. This article gives a summarizing report on the latest development in this field, especially on investigations of smectic phases by miscibility (section 2). A comparison of these results with investigations on structure will be done in section 3.
