Abstract
The isoelectronic X-4′-pentylphenyl-4-heptyloxy- and octyloxy-chalcogenbenzoates (7̄·X·5; 8̄·X·5; X= 0, S, Se, Te) exhibit nematic and smectic A as well as smectic C phases showing some phase transitions of second order [1, 2, 3].
