Zusammenfassung
Systeme zur Finanzbuchführung, Lagerhaltung, Fertigungsplanung und Vertriebsplanung sind typische Beispiele für betriebliche Informationssysteme. Sie bestehen aus Informationen, Prozessoren und Methoden sowie den Beziehungen zwischen diesen Komponenten. Informationen bedeuten hier — im Gegensatz zur Informationstheorie — das Wissen um oder die Kenntnis über Sachverhalte [DIN 44300, Schmitz und Seibt S. 18 f.], Prozessoren sind Menschen (die Mitarbeiter der Fachabteilungen, in der Folge auch Benutzer genannt) und Maschinen (isolierte Kleinrechner, intelligente Terminals und Zentralrechner). Methoden sind Algorithmen und nicht formalisierte Verfahren der maschinellen und manuellen Informationsverarbeitung. Betriebliche Informationssysteme sind demnach soziotechnische Systeme. Programme und Rechner repräsentieren nur einen Teil aus dem gesamten System.
