Zusammenfassung

Die Schwankungen der zonal vorhandenen potentiellen Energie von Jahr zu Jahr und der totalen Energie der Atmosphäre der nördlichen Hemisphäre lassen vermuten, daß eine beträchtliche Variabilität der diabatischen Antriebskräfte vorhanden ist. Diese beeinflußt die generelle Zirkulation der Atmosphäre. Die beobachteten Schwankungen sind groß genug, um kurzzeitige Klimafluktuationen verursachen zu können. Es werden auch mögliche Einflüsse der Wechselwirkung zwischen der Atmosphäre und dem Meer und beobachtete Schwankungen der generellen atmosphärischen Zirkulation diskutiert.
