Zusammenfassung
Ein Einfluß der Sonnenaktivität auf den Wetterablauf ist seit langem postuliert worden; so war z.B. für den Altmeister der Langfristvorhersage, Franz Baur [1], die Phase im Sonnenfleckenzyklus ein wichtiger Prädikator. Solche Behauptungen mußten aber umstritten bleiben, solange kein glaubwürdiger physikalischer Mechanismus angegeben werden konnte. Zwar war bekannt, daß die Ionosphäre resp. Thermosphäre durch die Vorgänge auf der Sonne intensiv beeinflußt werden, doch war eine Auswirkung von Schwankungen in diesen höchsten Schichten auf die Troposphäre (und damit auf das Wetter) infolge der vergleichsweise enorm geringen Masse unwahrscheinlich.
