Cord Factor and Related Synthetic Trehalose Diesters

Abstract

The term ‘cord factor’ designates glycolipids produced by Mycobacteria, Nocardiae, Corynebacteriae, and strains of Arthrobacter and Brevibacterium; they are 6,6′-diesters of α, α-D-trehalose [48] (Fig. 1) (for reviews see [4, 5, 19, 34, 35, 36, 52])1.
