Abstract
Diseases of infrasellar origin are essentially inflammatory or infectious diseases of the sphenoid sinus, or they are neoplastic diseases, usually malignant, which develop within the sphenoid sinus or, more frequently, propagate from the nasopharynx or the sinuses. Benign neoplastic diseases, parasitoses, and mycoses are exceptional. Primary bone diseases and trauma will be discussed in Chap. 13. In general, infrasellar expansive processes are most often latent until they have reached a volume large enough to cause signs indicating extension of the tumor into the sella itself or into the cavernous sinus or nasopharynx.
