Inhibition of Flowering in Short-Day Plants

  • Conference paper

Part of the book series: Proceedings in Life Sciences ((LIFE SCIENCES))

Abstract

In 1925, Garner and Allard (5) reported that placing the top leaves of the SDP Cosmos in LD’s inhibited the flower-stimulating effect from the lower leaves that were in SD’s. The top leaves of the controls were in darkness. Since then a variety of experiments have confirmed that LD’s, rather than being merely neutral, may inhibit flowering in SDP’s (1, 8, 14). Lang (14) has reviewed the early literature. I shall give references only to papers not cited by him.
