Abstract

One of the major paradoxes in the regulation of sodium excretion is that the patient or experimental animal with elevated blood pressure does not excrete more sodium than normotensives, although it has been known for almost a century that there is a correlation between renal perfusion pressure and sodium excretion (Cushny, 1971; Winton, 1951/52).
