Der Schwindel aus interdisziplinärer Sicht

Zusammenfassung

Der Schwindel ist eine subjektive Empfindung, deren exakte Beschreibung vielen Erwachsenen große Mühe bereitet. Von Kindern kann man Angaben erhalten wie „das Zimmer geht herum“, „das Haus fällt“ oder „ich kann nicht mehr stehen“. Für den Arzt ist es sehr schwer festzustellen, ob ein Säugling oder ein Kleinkind unter Schwindel leidet. Es sind lediglich indirekte Zeichen wie Blässe, Erbrechen, Schweißausbruch, vollkommen ruhiges Liegen, Nystagmus und Ataxie, welche vermuten lassen, daß Schwindel empfunden wird. Kurze Schwindelattacken werden besonders im Kindesalter nicht mehr als unangenehm empfunden und deshalb auch nicht immer mitgeteilt. Dafür sprechen die Beobachtungen an Jahrmärkten, daß Kinder sich an vielen Spielen erfreuen (Schaukelpferd, Drehrad, Karussell) die manchem Erwachsenen unangenehme Schwindelsensationen bereiten [1]. Alle diese Faktoren fuhren dazu, daß das Symptom Schwindel im Kindesalter häufig unentdeckt bleibt und es ist bezeichnend, daß einige gewichtige Lehrbücher der Kinderheilkunde den Schwindel überhaupt nicht erwähnen.
