Adriamycin-Cardiomyopathy: Changes in Myocardial Polyribosoms and mRNA Levels

  • Conference paper
Myocardial Biopsy

Summary

Myocardial DNA, RNA, and polyribosome levels were determined in normal and adria-mycin-treated rats and found to be decreased after treatment with adriamycin for 1 to 3 weeks. DNA concentrations decreased between 6% and 16%, RNA between 17% and 23%, polyribosomes betwt. 30% and 38%. The reduced polyribosome level was shown to be due to a decrease in myocardial mRNA concentration. We conclude that the observed reductions in myocardial levels of to tal RNA, mRNA, and polyribosomes play an important role in the pathogenesis of the adriamycin-cardiomyopathy.
