Quantification of Ischemic Dysfunction by Two-dimensional Echocardiography

Summary

Experimental validation studies of cross-sectional echocardiography are summarized. In vitro and in vivo investigations of echocardiographic measurements on the canine heart indicate the feasibility of quantifying left ventricular volumes and segmental wall motions. Ongoing research aims at developing a reproducible noninvasive methodology capable of quantitatively assessing alterations in global and regional cardiac function during spontaneous events of myocardial ischemia and its treatment.
