Abstract

It has long been known that the reflex excitatory effects of stimulating the arterial chemoreceptors are exerted mainly on the respiratory and circulatory systems (1). As yet, the mechanism by which this chemoreceptor input is transformed into an increased activity of the respiratory and sympathetic outputs has not been elucidated.
