Physiologic Tomography

  • Conference paper

Abstract

Quantitative in vitro autoradiography and tissue counting techniques have long been an important source of knowledge of basic physiologic and pathophysiologic processes. Emission computed tomography (ECT) [1] makes possible in vivo quantitative autoradiography. We refer to this method as physiologic tomography (PT). The capability of ECT to quantitatively and atraumatically measure tissue activity concentrations improves greatly the use of the tracer method in the living subject. A wide variety of physiologic processes may be measured with unprecedented accuracy and spatial resolution.
