Abstract
The physiologic effects of progesterone, which is produced in the organism, are presented. The endocrinologic, genital, extragenital, psychic, and neurovegetative effects of treatment with synthetic gestagens are also given, together with the different indications for gestagen therapy. Finally, the undesirable side effects of such therapy, and in particular those resulting from long-term usage, are discussed.
