UK Network Independent File Transfer Protocol

  • Conference paper
Kommunikation in verteilten Systemen

Part of the book series: Informatik—Fachberichte ((INFORMATIK,volume 22))

Abstract

The UK Network Independent FTP was specified in December 1977 and has since remained unchanged. Its structure will be outlined and its relation to both the underlying Transport Service and application interfaces will be discussed. File management and data presentation problems will be identified. These and other deficiencies have their solution in a longer-term standard File Handling Protocol. In the meantime, this FTP will be enhanced and will become a UK interim standard. Five independent implementations have been tested over EPSS. The lessons from this testing will be discussed and the need for a Certification Centre to support the interim standard will be identified.
