Zusammenfassung
Im letzten Jahrzehnt wurde in der westlichen Welt eine erhebliche Steigerung der Kolon- und Rektumkarzinom-Fälle verzeichnet. Die BRD gehört mit zu den Ländern, die die höchste Rate an Todesfällen durch diese Karzinome aufweisen. Im Jahre 1961 betrug die Todesrate bei Männern 18,3 und bei Frauen 13,9 pro 100.000 Einwohnern des jeweiligen Geschlechts. Dagegen fand sich 1971 ein Anstieg der Mortalitätsrate bei Frauen auf 33,6 und bei Männern auf 30,4 pro 100.000 Einwohnern des jeweiligen Geschlechts (Statistisches Bundesamt Wiesbaden). Epidemiologische Untersuchungen weisen darauf hin, daß Umwelteinflüsse eine entscheidende Rolle bei der Entstehung der Kolon- und Rektumkarzinome spielen.
