Zusammenfassung
Die Frage „Rektumamputation oder kontinenzerhaltende Rektumresektion“ führte zwischen angloamerikanischen und kontinentalen Chirurgen zu einer anhaltenden Kontroverse (18). Der rein empirisch gewonnenen Ansicht (13), daß Rektumkarzinome fast ausschließlich nach zentral lymphogen metastasieren, setzte Miles (14) sehr exakte pathologisch-anatomische Studien entgegen, die allerdings heute für die kontroverse Frage Rektumamputation oder Rektumresektion als überholt gelten dürfen, da überwiegend ein stark selektioniertes Sektionsgut — inoperable oder rezidivierte Fälle (1) — ausgewertet wurde.
