Abstract

Microbial infections are on the increase in all branches of medicine. This is especially true of mycotic infections (for details, see Sect. 9 and 10). This increase is attributable in part to iatrogenic causes. Paradoxically, antimicrobial agents can lead to or promote microbial infections.
