Pattern Formation by Dynamic Systems and Pattern Recognition

Part of the book series: Springer Series in Synergetics ((SSSYN,volume 5))

Abstract

In the mathematical theory of ecological communities, there are two major subjects: (i) the temporal dynamics of interacting populations and (ii) the spatial pattern of the community. Historically, these subjects have undergone quite independent development, and have been concerned with very different sorts of questions.
