Abstract
Since 1975 when the first hybridomas secreting antibodies of predetermined specificity were generated (1) the fusion technique has been applied in many laboratories for many different purposes. In the same time several restrictions on cell fusion have become apparent. Some of these restrictions work to the advantage of the experimenter and some to his disadvantage. We wish here to describe how it was possible to exploit some of the benefits and to overcome some of the hindrances that these restrictions imposed on the fusion process.
