Abstract

Even strict observation of absolute and relative contraindications does not always prevent complications during endoscopic procedures. Most accidents, however, can be traced to disregard for contraindications, among which lack of patient cooperation plays a particular role. In case of complications, the endoscopist should consider himself responsible for the further care of the patient. In case of an accident during an examination, repair and restoration of vital functions have absolute priority over completion of the examination, so that the patient will not be subjected to further risks unnecessarily.
