Zusammenfassung

Die Bedeutung des Elektroenzephalogramms für die Psychiatrie ist lange Zeit mit großer Skepsis beurteilt worden. Noch 1967 kommt Jung in der 1. Auflage dieses Werkes zu der Feststellung, daß das EEG nur im Zusammenhang mit normalen Bewußtseinsänderungen und pathologischen Bewußtseinsstörungen, insbesondere bei epileptischen Psychosen, ferner bei organischen Psychosen und bei Somato-Therapien von Psychosen für den Psychiater eine Rolle spiele. Diese Situation hat sich jedoch inzwischen gewandelt. Hierfür waren zum einen methodische Neuerungen maßgeblich, wie die Entwicklung der EEG-Analyse und die Technik der Registrierung evozierter und ereignisbezogener Potentiale, zum anderen auf der klinisch-psychiatrischen Seite die Blickwendung von einer mehr nosologisch orientierten Betrachtungsweise mit ihrem fragwürdigen Begriff von Krankheitseinheiten und einem monokausalen Denken hin zu Syndrom-Begriffen, die das Bedingungsgefüge psychopathologischer Phänomene wie auch eine Verlaufstypologie einzubeziehen suchen. Diese beiden Elemente der in den letzten Jahren erreichten Fortschritte auf dem Gebiet zwischen Elektroenzephalographie und Psychiatrie sind noch nicht auf allen Teilbereichen wirksam geworden, werden jedoch in der folgenden Darstellung wiederholt anklingen.
