Abstract
Fungal viruses are well known by now, and have been reported in Helminthosporium species from several laboratories. However, their occurrence in our country is less known. We hereby report the presence of mycoviruses in Helminthosporium. Cultures of the fungus showed watery, hyaline spots which were able to be transmitted by physical transfer to further cultures. This abnormality also seemed to be inherently present in some of the forms, while totally absent from some others. Gramineous Helminthosporia are more prone to mycoviruses than non-graminicolous forms. Morphology, transmission, and ultrastructure of the viruses will be presented, and taxonomy of mycoviruses in general will be discussed.
