Problems Associated with the Surgical Treatment of Cancer of the Gastric Stump

  • Conference paper
Gastric Cancer

Abstract

The occurrence of gastric cancer in patients with a history of gastric surgery has increased in frequency within the last three decades and thus increased in importance for the surgeon, even though it is not possible to decide whether the pathogenesis and incidence of these cancers depend on the previous illness or operation [2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8]. Despite the advances made in diagnosis and operating technique, the long-term prognosis with this form of cancer — apart for a few individual cases — is extremely poor [1, 7, 10, 13].
